Sialic acid (SA), also known as N-acetylneuraminic acid, is an important component of glycoproteins
and glycolipids on the cell membrane. It widely exists in organisms and participates in various
physiological functions on the cell surface.
Sialic acid forms a purplish red complex with 5-methylresorcinol in the presence of oxidant. It has a
maximum absorption peak at 560nm. The content of sialic acid can be calculated by measuring the light
absorption value of the product at 560nm.
