background:
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the LARprotein-tyrosine phosphatase-interacting protein (liprin) family.Liprins interact with members of LAR family of transmembraneprotein tyrosine phosphatases, which are known to be important foraxon guidance and mammary gland development. This protein binds tothe intracellular membrane-distal phosphatase domain of tyrosinephosphatase LAR, and appears to localize LAR to cell focaladhesions. This interaction may regulate the disassembly of focaladhesion and thus help orchestrate cell-matrix interactions.Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinctisoforms have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].

Function:
This protein is a member of the LAR protein-tyrosine phosphatase-interacting protein (liprin) family. Liprins interact with members of LAR family of transmembrane protein tyrosine phosphatases, which are known to be important for axon guidance and mammary gland development. This protein binds to the intracellular membrane-distal phosphatase domain of tyrosine phosphatase LAR, and appears to localize LAR to cell focal adhesions. This interaction may regulate the disassembly of focal adhesion and thus help orchestrate cell-matrix interactions.

Subunit:
Forms homodimers and heterodimers with liprins-alpha andliprins-beta. Interacts with the second PTPase domain of PTPRD,PTPRF and PTPRS. Interacts with GIT1, KIF1A and GRIP1

Subcellular Location:
Cytoplasm. Note=Colocalizes with PTPRF atthe ends of focal adhesions most proximal to the cell nucleus.

Tissue Specificity:
Ubiquitous.

Post-translational modifications:
Phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR.

Similarity:
Belongs to the liprin family. Liprin-alpha subfamily.
Contains 3 SAM (sterile alpha motif) domains.
