Rabbit Anti-PCDH11Y + PCDH11X /FITC Conjugated antibody
background:
This gene belongs to the protocadherin gene family, a subfamily of the cadherin superfamily. The encoded protein consists of an extracellular domain containing 7 cadherin repeats, a transmembrane domain and a cytoplasmic tail that differs from those of the classical cadherins. The gene is located in a major X/Y block of homology and its Y homolog, despite divergence leading to coding region changes, is the most closely related cadherin family member. The protein is thought to play a fundamental role in cell-cell recognition essential for the segmental development and function of the central nervous system. Transcripts arising from alternative splicing encode isoforms with variable cytoplasmic domains. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].
Function:
PCDH11Y (Protocadherin 11 Y-linked) is a member of the protocadherin family. Protocadherins constitute the largest subgroup within the cadherin family of calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion molecules. Their specific functions are unknown but they may be involved in the establishment and function of specific neuronal connections in the brain. The PCDH11Y gene is located in a major X/Y block of homology and its most closely related cadherin superfamily member is located in this homologous region on the X chromosome (PCDH11X).
Subunit:
Interacts with CTNNB1.
Subcellular Location:
Cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein.
Tissue Specificity:
Expressed strongly in fetal brain and brain (cortex, amygdala, thalamus, substantia nigra, hippocampus, caudate nucleus and corpus callosum). Expressed at low level in testis. Expressed in apoptosis-resistant cells.
DISEASE:
Note=A chromosomal aberration involving PCDH11Y is a cause of multiple congenital abnormalities, including severe bilateral vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) with ureterovesical junction defects. Translocation t(Y;3)(p11;p12) with ROBO2.
Similarity:
Contains 7 cadherin domains.
