background:
Members of the F-box protein family, such as FBXO27, are characterized by an approximately 40-amino acid F-box motif. SCF complexes, formed by SKP1, cullin (CUL1), and F-box proteins, act as protein-ubiquitin ligases. F-box proteins interact with SKP1 through the F box, and they interact with ubiquitination targets through other protein interaction domains.
Function:
Substrate-recognition component of the SCF (SKP1-CUL1-F-box protein)-type E3 ubiquitin ligase complex. Able to recognize and bind denatured glycoproteins, which are modified with complex-type oligosaccharides.
Subunit:
Part of a SCF (SKP1-cullin-F-box) protein ligase complex. Interacts with SKP1 and CUL1.
Tissue Specificity:
Predominantly expressed in brain, heart and kidney. Expressed at lower levels in liver and lung.
Similarity:
Contains 1 F-box domain.
Contains 1 FBA (F-box associated) domain.
