background:
May play an important role during the embryonic development and differentiation of the central nervous system. Human NEDD1 localises to the centrosome and mitotic spindle. It binds to the components of the gamma-tubulin ring complex and target this complex to the centrosome and spindle.
Function:
Required for mitosis progression. Promotes thenucleation of microtubules from the spindle.
Subunit:
Interacts with FAM29A and gamma-tubulin.
Subcellular Location:
Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, centrosome.
Post-translational modifications:
During mitosis, prior phosphorylation on Thr-550 by CDK1promotes subsequent phosphorylation by PLK1 on Thr-382, Ser-397,Ser-426 and Ser-637. Phosphorylated NEDD1 can interact withgamma-tubulin for targeting the gamma-tubulin ring complex (gTuRC)to the centrosome, an important step for spindle formation.
Similarity:
Contains 8 WD repeats.
