background:
RIL, also known as PDLIM4 is a putative tumor suppressor gene. RIL is transcriptionally repressed by hypermethylation in a variety of tumors including breast and prostate. The difference in methylation status of RIL between normal and cancerous tissues is being investigated as to determine the use of RIL as a potential biomarker. Two isoforms of human RIL one have been identified.
