background:
Neuronal CDC2-like kinase, which is involved in the regulation of neuronal differentiation, is composed of a catalytic subunit, CDK5, and an activating subunit, p25NCK5A. The protein encoded by this gene binds to p25NCK5A and therefore may be involved in neuronal differentiation. The encoded protein, which may be a substrate of neuronal CDC2-like kinase, has also been found in vascular endothelial cells, where it mediates cell proliferation.
Function:
CDK5RAP3 may be involved in cell proliferation through regulation of the CDK5 family by interaction with CDK5 receptor 1.
Subunit:
Interacts with CDK5R1. This interaction is prevented by the association between CDK5R1 and CDK5RAP3 (By similarity). Interacts with the enteric adenovirus serotype 41 fiber protein. Interacts with UFL1.
Tissue Specificity:
Ubiquitous. Expressed in heart, brain, placenta, lung, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney and pancreas. Isoform 3 is expressed in kidney, liver, skeletal muscle and placenta.
Post-translational modifications:
Phosphorylated in vitro by CDK5
Similarity:
Belongs to the CDK5RAP3 family.
