background:
NAS6 (p28) is a proteasome-interacting protein which acts as a chaperone to assemble the base sub-complex of the 19S RP which is involved in the ATP-dependent degradation of ubiquitinated proteins. NAS6 is composed of 226 amino acid residues with calculated molecular masses of 24.4kD.
Function:
Acts as a chaperone during the assembly of the 26S proteasome, specifically of the 19S regulatory complex (RC) and appears to have an overlapping role with RPN14.
Subunit:
Interacts with RPT3.
Subcellular Location:
Cytosol; Nucleus; Proteasome complex
Similarity:
Contains 6 ANK repeats.
