Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and have a wide variety of functions, most of which encompass some form of transcriptional activation or repression. The majority of zinc-finger proteins contain a kruppel-type DNA binding domain and a KRAB domain, which is thought to interact with KAP1, thereby recruiting histone modifying proteins. ZNF687 (zinc finger protein 687) is a 1,237 amino acid nuclear protein that is involved in transcriptional regulation. A member of the Krüppel C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family, ZNF687 contains ten C2H2-type zinc fingers and exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms. The gene encoding ZNF687 maps to human chromosome 1, which comprises nearly 8% of the human genome and houses a large number of disease-associated genes, including those that are involved in familial adenomatous polyposis, Stickler syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, Gaucher disease, schizophrenia and Usher syndrome.

Function:
May be involved in transcriptional regulation.

Nucleus.

Similarity:
Belongs to the krueppel C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family.
Contains 10 C2H2-type zinc fingers.
