This gene encodes an essential splicing factor. The encoded protein associates with the U2 auxiliary factor heterodimer, which is required for the recognition of a functional 3' splice site in pre-mRNA splicing, and may play a role in network interactions during spliceosome assembly. Function:
ZRSR2 is an essential splicing factor. The protein associates with the U2 auxiliary factor heterodimer, which is required for the recognition of a functional 3' splice site in pre-mRNA splicing, and may play a role in network interactions during spliceosome assembly. This gene encodes U2AF small subunit related protein 2 which is an essential splicing factor. This protein is associated with the U2AF heterodimer composed of a large and a small subunit. It specifically interacts with the large subunit through an U2AF small subunit homologous region, and with SR proteins through its RS domain. This protein and U2AF small subunit are not functionally redundant.
Subunit:
Component of the U11/U12 snRNPs that are part of the U12-type spliceosome. Interacts (via RS domain) with SRSF1 and SRSF2. Interacts with U2AF2/U2AF65.
Subcellular Location:
Nuclear
Tissue Specificity:
Widely expressed.
Post-translational modifications:
Phosphorylated in the RS domain by SRPK1.
Similarity:
Contains 2 C3H1-type zinc fingers.
Contains 1 RRM (RNA recognition motif) domain.
