This gene encodes a member of the myotubularin related family of proteins. Members of this family contain the consensus sequence for the active site of protein tyrosine phosphatases. Alternatively spliced variants have been described but their biological validity has not been determined. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Function:
MTMR1 is a member of the myotubularin related family of proteins. Members of this family contain the consensus sequence for the active site of protein tyrosine phosphatases. The MTMR1 gene shares structural similarities with the MTM1 gene, and is also located in the same chromosomal region. Myotubularin related proteins are a large subfamily of protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) that dephosphorylate D3 phosphorylated inositol lipids. MTMR1 is a lipid phosphatase that acts on phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate and phosphatidylinositol (3,5)-bisphosphate.
Subcellular Location:
Plasma Membrane; Peripheral membrane protein, cytoplasmic side.
Similarity:
Belongs to the protein-tyrosine phosphatase family.
Contains 1 GRAM domain.
Contains 1 myotubularin phosphatase domain.
